Summary & Context
This assignment was to make an instruction set. I chose to create a guide on how to care for strings instruments.
I designed this document to be easily navigable, with short, separate instruction sets for each small step in a larger process. The guide's table of contents and many graphics assist the user.
Document Design Decisions
The guide is set up in chronological order by subject.
Each subsection starts with background information (how much time the process takes and how often it should be performed) before more specific instructions.
Warnings and cautions follow this information in italics. This choice draws attention and ensures readers do not harm their instruments if they do not read the instructions in full before starting.
The sections provide relevant graphics to demonstrate techniques and explain terminology. The graphics break up the text and give the user extra context.
If another process should be performed before, during, or after one process, the instructions note this and refer the user to the other section for further details. Doing so (rather than repeating instructions) makes the overall guide more concise.
